Overview

A heady mix of golden beaches, crystal clear waters teeming with tropical fish, lush rainforests and thriving culture - it can be said that St Lucia is a true island paradise! Only 27 miles long and 14 miles wide, St Lucia is packed to bursting with natural beauty with an abundance of exotic wild flowers and brilliantly plumed tropical birds. The vibe on St Lucia is very laid-back with relaxation the order of the day!

Culture

Throughout history, many different groups of people have settled on St Lucia - bringing with them their different beliefs and traditions. The result is a cultural melting pot. It is possible to drive on the British side of the road to an Indian restaurant in a French town, greeted along the way in Creole patios! There are fortresses aplenty to explore, the result of several decades of fierce warfare for the possession of the island and lovely plantation houses.

Cuisine

St. Lucia′s rich cultural heritage is displayed to perfection in its cuisine. The fertile, volcanic soil of the island shields an abundance of fresh produce including several different types of banana, mangoes, papayas, pineapples, passion fruits , guavas and coconut. Local chefs combine this incredible bounty with a wide variety of equally fresh seafood to create tantalising curries, Creole-style entrees and pepper pot stews.

Things to do

Join a jeep safari and head through St Lucia′s lush green countryside for the ride of your life! There are also horseback excursions, and rainforest, mountain and plantation walks aplenty. Adrenaline junkies can fly though the air on a series of zip lines up to 50ft above the ground or tackle the Pitons with the help of a local guide. There is also an 18-hole championship golf course with beautiful fairways and stunning views.

Climate

St Lucia is quite literally drenched in sunshine all year round. Daily temperatures often reach 85 degrees and, as it lies in the path of the north-east trade winds, you won′t feel uncomfortably hot. July and August are the hottest months but even December and January can be wonderfully mild. June to November is the official hurricane season with occasional tropical storms to be expected, however, the rain is warm and rarely lasts for any length of time.
